Christine Blasey Ford's Courage Will Make Change

Christine Blasey Ford had courage to come forth with a very personal, hurtful story of past abuse. Her story will bring positive change over time.

Although I believe that Kavanaugh should have stepped down for his own sanity and the betterment of the country, he has taken the oath and now serves as a Supreme Court Justice. Hopefully he can take what just happened and reflect upon it. Hopefully he can work against his narrow privileged perspective and begin to see a broader, more diverse, and good America--an American filled with people of diverse race, gender, class, culture, lifestyle and more. Hopefully he will not make Constitutional decisions based on his narrow personal perspective and focus, but with a broader, more reasoned, and humane perspective.

He can redeem himself by making decisions that reflect the most broad, humane, positive decisions--decisions that will ensure that his daughters and the daughters and sons of every other American will be able to live in a country that treats them with respect, dignity, and decisions that afford them a good life no matter what their lifestyle, race, culture, gender, body type, religion or other choices are.

Hopefully he can use the humiliation he faced and his bad acts of the past as a stepping stone to betterment--a direction that, in time, demonstrates public respect and acknowledgement of Ford's great courage.

It is always the case that the first who come forward to right history's wrongdoing are cast as the criminals themselves, but in time, we will see that these people stand tall with their rightful words and courageous acts.

Blasey Ford spoke out because her experiences showed her that Kavanaugh was not fit to be a Supreme Court Justice--his past actions demonstrated a narrow perspective and disregard for humanity, and at this time as we yearn for greater justice for all, we needed a new Supreme Court Justice who would blaze the trail to modernizing and uplifting our great Constitution to include dignity for all people, not just the privileged.

Yet, Kavanaugh holds the post. Let's hope he doesn't quickly let his privilege blind him from the truth Blasey Ford recounted, truths that demonstrate poor character and choices on behalf of Kavanaugh and many like him at the time and still today. Let's hope that humiliation will move him to making decisions that distance America from the prejudice, selfishness, and greed so supported by President Trump and his outdated, narrow minded, self-serving prejudiced cronies.

We can do better in America to raise the standard of living, dignity, and respect for all Americans and Christine Blasey Ford's courage has been one step in that direction. I am hopeful that her step will move all of us a bit closer to the kind of American we value and imagine. Do you agree?
