Time and Power?

We talk a lot about money, but we don't talk enough about time. Who has the time that translates into political power? Time includes not only your own time, but the time that you hire others to clean your house, pay your bills, do your taxes, grocery shop, and more. Most average American do all of their own chores plus work too. That leaves them with little time to understand the complex decisions made on their behalf. That lack of time leaves the average American less powerful and impactful than those Americans who have the luxury of time, and especially those who have the luxury of time and money. How can we mitigate the time differential? What can we do for average Americans to buy them more time to get involved at local, state, and national levels? What matters in this regard? This time differential, I suspect, is also greatly tied to the gender differential. I suspect that many women have less time due to the care taking they do with regard to their parents, children

Everyone is Asking for Money: The Benefit of Fair Taxation

Many would have you believe that taxes are the nemesis of society, but I believe, instead, fair taxation is the life-blood of a good society. To forward a society that promotes life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all citizens, we need to pool our resources to support what we need to be a strong, vital community for today and into the future. Fair taxation depends on the voice and choice of many public bodies and elected officials coming together to make decisions around the common good. Fair taxation relies on these questions: Who are we as a nation? What do we value? What are we willing to support? Everywhere people are asking me for money. I am actually confused about who many of these groups are and if the money will be used fairly. I am actually more trusting of good public policy and use of money than countless outside, individual agencies who reach out for support, though there are organizations I do support, organizations that I know well. I wish I could sup

See Color: Politics at Home and Afar

Too often we forget to see the many varied colors of a situation. Instead we see with an either/or mindset, one or the other. We forget that there are so many paths towards what it means to live well and promote what is right and good. As I think of my small role in the political realm, the role of citizen today, I am thinking about who I am and what I believe in. Yvonne Spicer for Mayor of Framingham, MA First, I'm voting for Yvonne Spicer for Framingham's first mayor. She's got a forward reaching vision--I honor her work and commitment, and think she will make the best first mayor of Framingham, a new city that has tremendous potential to continue and uplift conditions for good living for all of its citizens. Conditions for Excellence for EVERY Massachusetts Public School and Student At the state level, I'm listening carefully to our many political leaders, and haven't joined one movement or another with the exception of being a member of the Massachusetts

Why Iridescent lens

Iridescent:  showing luminous colors that seem to change when seen from different angles. synonyms: opalescent ,  nacreous ,  shimmering ,  luminous ,  glittering ,  ...  more Lens:  a piece of glass or other transparent substance with curved sides for concentrating or dispersing light rays, used singly (as in a magnifying glass) or with other lenses (as in a telescope). ▪ the light-gathering device of a camera, typically containing a group of compound lenses. ▪ an object or device that focuses or otherwise modifies the direction of movement of light, sound, electrons, etc. I like to see with color. I like to see the color when darkness occurs too. I want to be "light gathering" and I want to see "from different angles" as I consider politics, direction, thought, and inspiration.  Thus the title of my new blog, Iridescent Lens.

Trump Times: Indictment

#MuellerTime and #MuellerMonday tweets abound today as word of the indictment of Manafort and Gates spread through media of all kinds. This is a turning point for the investigation of Russian influence over the 2016 Presidential campaign. As I think of this news, I am thinking about why President Trump has been the all-time most disappointing President in my lifetime. The bottom line is that President Trump is a rude, disrespectful, and unthoughtful man--his tweets continually inflame, name call, spread mistruths, and exaggerate reality. His contempt for almost anyone that doesn't do as he pleases at the moment he pleases it is childlike and worrisome. His social media interface paints him as an erratic, infantile, non-trustworthy, and rash individual who does not take the job of President of the United States and the law of our land, The United States Constitution, seriously.  He laments "fake news" yet it's his own news, his tweets, that demonstrate poor attitu
